Solar-staff.com is a freelancer contracting and payments service. The client tasked us to create a new explainer for a new product – an app for freelancers – that would encourage self-employed contractors from all over the world to download it.

Character Development
The character style draws inspiration from French comics, but we simplifiedit, made it more stylized.
The body proportions are realistic, but the shapes have less definition and a less detailed anatomy. There are creases in the clothing, but they appear only where absolutely necessary: at the elbows and knees. The portrait has to be unique and memorable, but the person still has to look like a human being– we’ll play with the shape of the face, the eyebrows, the lips.
We use a monoline with rounded ends. It’s important that these lines are naive and tentative. It’s okay if they’re a little fuzzy. They aren’t clean vector lines, but hand-drawn and real.
Almost none of our surrounding objects are filled, but we still have a powdery gradient and the opportunity to accentuate with additional color. The lines of surrounding objects are more clearly defined than those of the characters. There still feel “hand-drawn”, but it isn’t so immediately obvious.
